It’s important to note that regardless of when this blog goes live I am writing it with my cold frozen fingers in Chicago on a day that is -20 degrees.
This weather is literally arctic weather. Winds and a temperature that are normally over the arctic circle has shifted over to the midwest. And yes, it is horrifying.
I’ve had to leave my water dripping from all my faucets so that the pipes don’t freeze and I have radiator heating so I’m at the mercy of those pipes as well.
Living in a “Day After Tomorrow” situation currently is awful I assure you. But it’s also granted me permission to look FABULOUS.
To the left you’ll notice all of my favorite articles of clothing and get this...today I have the excuse to wear all of them at once!
I’ll break it down for you.
On top I’ve got a plaid brimmed hat with ear wings. A personal favorite of mine but it’s too big for my head so I have to wear it with another hat.
Enter hat number two! This mustard beanie was gifted to me by my partner this past holiday season and it’s a staple in my wardrobe.
Third down is my Marty McFly vest. This piece is sentimental because it made me feel gay when I was in the closet. While horrifying to me then, I high five with that version of me now - cuz she got there.
Below the vest I’ve got my favorite sweater. This puppy is one of those pieces that fits me perfectly and inspires me only to wear clothes that make me feel this awesome.
My blue button up. Ah, a classic and something I wear often if not every other day. It makes every sweater I own professional business ready. I’ve won many meetings in this combo.
Finally my base - a thermal waffle shirt. I call it a waffle shirt because the itsy bitsy squares look like tiny waffles! Yum! I’m not sure what it’s technically called but I’ve used this name for it since I was in high school and I’ve grown fond of my wardrobe shorthand.
I understand not all of you live in a version of the north pole and dress like a lesbian lumberjack like me.
But this got me to thinking.
What would I included in the perfect layering combo of Dapper Boi clothes if I had the opportunity to dress for a winter without life threatening winds?
I’m glad you asked because I put something together for you.
Here’s what I would layer for a business casual day and some of my favorite Dapper Boi items.
I’ll start from the pants and work my way up.
The Slim British Khaki Stretch Chino Pants are the base in which the whole outfit is built around.
When I layer I start with the pants I’m most interested in first. They are the blank canvas in which I brush the color that is the rest of my outfit.
The Navy Polo Shirt is next. This design is super classic, with the stripes on the sleeves and grey collar.
The Zip-Up Hoodie is for style but mostly about comfort for me. I am a person who finds safety in my clothes.
Wearing things that make me feel a level of cozy are huge. Builds my confidence and can come off or on throughout the day.
Finally, the casual Knit Blazer to top it all off. This is the business I would add to this casual.
Think of the pants and blazer as the bread to an awesome Dapper Boi outfit sandwich.
Starting and ending with professionalism, stuffed with comfort, style throughout.
Kind of makes you think how you’d layer your own perfect Dapper Boi outfit, right?
